Pass rates in Scotland's exams were up across the board - but close to a quarter of the overall total had their grades lowered by the Scottish Qualifications Authority. The downgrading has led to claims that the system is stacked against pupils from less privileged backgrounds but the SQA insists its’ decisions were made "to protect the credibility of Scotland's exam system".
