Cressida Cowell, Glasgow Film Theatre re-opening, The Stray Cats of Homs and a celebration of Edwin Morgan

Children鈥檚 Laureate Cressida Cowell introduces a new digital festival for children and families- the Reading is Magic Festival.

Children鈥檚 Laureate Cressida Cowell talks about a new digital festival of books and reading for children, families and schools- the Reading is Magic Festival. She鈥檒l be joined by Janet Smyth, the Bath Children鈥檚 Literature Festival Programme Consultant, to reveal how a number of book festivals around the country, and one in Canada, have joined forces to deliver it.

The Glasgow Film Theatre re-opens today, so Chief Executive of Glasgow Film Allison Gardner and Programme Manager Paul Gallagher join Janice to talk about how the GFT has weathered the last five months, and how as an independent cinema they have met the challenge of re-opening the doors in accordance with Covid-19 guidelines.

Tonight the last night of the Edinburgh International Book Festival, currently taking place online, will wind up with a flourish with a celebration of the life and work of Scotland鈥檚 acclaimed poet Edwin Morgan, who died ten years ago this month and who would have been 100 years old this year. To complement the event, we revisit highlights from an in-depth conversation between Edwin and Janice from our archives, where Edwin talks about Glasgow, being Glasgow鈥檚 Makar, coming out at the age of 70, and how he wanted to be remembered.

And journalist Eva Nour and her partner Sami discuss The Stray Cats of Homs, a book Eva wrote based on the true story of Sami鈥檚 life as a typical Syrian boy who, after enduring compulsory military service, saw his country erupt in political turmoil, which eventually meant he had to flee his homeland for a new life abroad.
