InterAct Stroke Support

InterAct Stroke Support are an award winning charity that takes professional actors into hospitals and stroke clubs to deliver a live interactive reading service to stroke survivors. Our work stimulates memory and language and alleviates the depression often associated with stroke. We work in 19 hospitals and 38 stroke clubs nationally

Hospital work

Hospital work
Following a stroke, reading and conversational interaction stimulates the brain, boosts memory and communication skills, improves mood and alleviates depression.聽 Professional actors deliver a stimulating and rich variety of reading material, specially selected to suit the needs of stroke patients. Occupational and speech therapists have often commented that patients are more likely to engage with other hospital interventions after having worked with our actors.聽

Stroke club work

Stroke club work
Post-stroke rehabilitation can be a long process and InterAct supports stroke survivors every step of the way. At stroke clubs our actors encourage people to use their own creativity to create poems, short stories, sometimes even short plays. Confidence via creativity helps alleviate social isolation. During the Covid-19 crisis, we have created InterAct at 主播大秀, our virtual reading service to individuals and groups using social media technology such as Zoom.聽聽

Community work

Community work
Game of Thrones actor and InterAct ambassador Owen Teale read to stroke patients at the Stroke Rehabilitation Centre, Cardiff.聽 He described being 鈥渧ery moved by the experience鈥.聽 聽 The centre鈥檚 Senior Speech and Language Therapist Tabitha Mansell Thomas said 鈥淲e are seeing the reading service as integral to a patients overall well being because a stroke affects so many areas of your life鈥.聽 聽聽
