Alternative Christmas Movies, Pixar’s ‘Soul’ and Film Reviews (including Wonder Woman 1984)

Review of one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, Wonder Woman 1984, with Gal Gadot returning as the DC superhero.

Christmas is almost upon us; a time when we all like to hunker down and watch some festive flavoured movies, but with the amount of time we've all spent at home this year, you might need some extra inspiration...maybe you fancy an alternative to the usual fare?

With seasonal good timing, Grant Stott talks to Regular Afternoon Show Arts critic Ian Hoey about a raft of older hidden gems and unusual films worth tracking down - films that generally don't get much attention: Christmas Holiday from 1944 for example with Gene Kelly as a violent unstable sociopath! I'll Be Seeing You with Ginger Rogers as an ex criminal, and Holiday Affair featuring Robert Mitchum, in a surprise switch from his heavy roles, with Janet Leigh.

Director Pete Docter will be discussing Pixar Animation Studios’ highly anticipated all-new feature film ‘Soul’ featuring the voice talents of Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Graham Norton and Richard Ayoade – it addresses a very big question- what is it that makes you...YOU?

We have another chance to hear Grant in an extended, conversation, with Documentary Film Producer Viv Perry discussing THE CHANGIN’ TIMES OF IKE WHITE – currently available on the iPlayer. It’s the remarkable story of a musical prodigy who found himself in prison at the age of 19 - serving life for murder In 1974. He released "Changin' Times" a stunning album of songs recorded inside prison and the film charts his journey out from prison into industry adulation and life as a free man.

Grant will also be hosting our Film Hour when film critics Siobhan Synnot & Ali Harkness will review one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, Wonder Woman 1984 with Gal Gadot returning as the DC superhero.

They will also discuss The Midnight Sky -a post-apocalyptic tale following Augustine (George Clooney), a lonely scientist in the Arctic, as he races to stop Sully (Felicity Jones) and her fellow astronauts from returning home to Earth, where a mysterious global catastrophe has taken place. (Clooney also directs the adaptation of Lily Brooks-Dalton’s acclaimed novel Good Morning)

All that and an absolute classic filled with Christmas Cheer! The Bishop's Wife - the miraculous tale of harassed bishop whose prayers are answered when an angel (Cary Grant) is sent from heaven to help ...
