What does Lent mean in 2021? Ian Galloway and Rosa Murray discuss. Actor Maueen Beattie talks about bullying in the performing arts. Plus how to combat conspiracy theories.

Wednesday marked the beginning of Lent, a period usually marked by abstinence and prayer. Coming after nearly a year of lockdown which has created extraordinary challenges and sometimes unexpected opportunities for reflection, Ian Galloway from the Church of Scotland and Minister of Gorbals Parish Church, and Rosa Murray from Edinburgh University and a parishioner in the city’s Catholic community reflect on what Lent means now.

Following on from the accusations of bullying on the set of Buffy, actor and president of performers’ union Equity Maureen Beattie discusses her personal experience and we’re joined by Scott Richardson-Read of ARC Scotland and Rosa Murray to think about the long term effects of bullying.

We’ll hear from care worker Kathryn Bailey and Capital Theatre’s Dawn Irvine, the people behind Sundown Stories, a project about the power of storytelling for people suffering from dementia.

Performer Marlon Solomon will be telling us about his show A Lizard’s Tale, streaming as part of the Glasgow Interfaith Conference. We’ll be exploring anti-Semitism in conspiracy theories and how to combat it, as well as hearing from virologist and comedian Dr Bishara Marzook about how science needs to win public trust.

Rev Peter Johnson tells us about how the Church of Scotland elders have been using sea shanty Wellerman to tell a story from the bible.

And climate and outdoors activist Lauren MacCullum will be discussing snow sports, the spirituality of being in the mountains and a film exploring her work at the Fort William Film Festival, showing until Feb 25.
