Mother's Day, Boat Sales, Clone Company Fraud

People are spending more on Mother's Day gifts this year, at a time when they can't visit in person. Boat and paddle board sales have increased, but so have rescues at sea.

Mother's Day is a big weekend for retailers who sell gifts, cards and flowers. It's the second year in a row where families may be unable to see their mothers in person, research for You & Yours suggests spend will be up 9% compared to 2020. But not all retailers are happy - click and collect is available in England, Wales and Scotland - but not in Northern Ireland. Florists in Northern Ireland say it'll have a huge impact on what should be the busiest day of their year.
Boat and paddle board sales have increased, as people look for ways to conjure up the feeling of a foreign holiday. But the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, the RNLI, says life boats launches increased by over 60% last year. They're worried this year will be a record year for call outs as more inexperienced people are on the water. We hear from people who have bought boats and paddleboards for the first time, and tips for how to stay safe on British beaches this year.
You & Yours has been reporting on clone firm investment scams. It's when fraudsters mimic or clone real, legitimate companies in order to convince people to part with their money. They set up fake websites, phone numbers, bank accounts, and take on the names of the real directors. We hear from a company that has been cloned three times in the last year, despite repeated attempts to tackle the scammers. And from a victim who lost over 拢50,000 to the people pretending to be that company.
