Muscular Dystrophy UK

Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK) is here for the 70,000 children and adults in the UK who live with one of 60 rare and very rare muscle-wasting conditions. There is no cure for these conditions, which limit and, in many cases, shorten lives.

Research

Research
In our Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio 4 appeal, you’ll hear how the scientists we fund are hard at work searching for effective treatments and cures that could potentially slow down or halt the progression of muscular dystrophy. We support world-leading research and won’t stop until we find treatments or cures for all types of muscular dystrophy.

Community

Community
Our Radio 4 Appeal focuses on the friendship between comedian Jon Richardson and his mate Martin, who has limb girdle muscular dystrophy. They met through a common interest, and we are proud to build community in the same way. Through our national groups, events and peer-to-peer support, we bring individuals, families and professionals together to beat muscle-wasting conditions.

Support and information

Support and information
MDUK is here for anyone affected by muscular dystrophy, from the point of diagnosis onwards, offering practical and emotional support, as well as information and advice. Families like Martin’s rely on this support to enable them to get on with living their lives as independently as possible. Since the start of the pandemic, our helpline has seen a 40 percent surge in calls.

Faster access to treatments

When you’re living with a progressive muscle-wasting condition, every day counts. That’s why, when new treatments emerge, we campaign for those who need them to get access to them as quickly as possible. In the same way, we campaign for everyone living with a muscle-wasting condition to have access to specialist NHS support and healthcare, whatever their age and wherever they live.
