with Cathy Macdonald

From refugee to rector, Debora Kayembe talks about her new role at Edinburgh University; highlights from the Kirk's General Assembly and inspired by Friends, our own reunions.

Hearing how the pandemic has contributed to a worrying rise in the number of young people with an eating disorder. Cathy's joined by Jo, a parent whose daughter has experienced this, Kayleigh Hindley who was diagnosed with anorexia as a teen, and Dr Charlotte Oakley, from the Connect eating disorder team for children and young people, and a lead for the Scottish Government's national review for eating disorders in Scotland.

Dave Scott, director of anti-sectarian charity Nil By Mouth, shares a piece of music that fosters a deep longing in him for home and connection.

Human rights lawyer Debora Kayembe is the first person of colour to be appointed as Rector of the University of Edinburgh. She tells Cathy about her experience as a refugee in Scotland and what her hopes are for the new role.

We hear some of the key talking points from this year's General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, with Former Moderator, Very Rev Susan Brown of Dornoch Cathedral, who is the Convenor of Faith Impact Forum, and Reverend Dr Grant Barclay, Convener of Legal Questions and Presbytery Clerk for Glasgow.

The Friends gang is back together, reunited after 17 years. Although it may not be quite so long for the rest of us, for many the hardest part of the pandemic was not being able to see friends and family in person. Church of Scotland minister Susan Brown and Andrea Baker, broadcaster and mezzo soprano, discuss the power of the reunion.

And Andrea Baker explains the impact of prominent US slave abolitionist Frederick Douglass's visit to Scotland 175 years ago, and how his visit to the Border town of Hawick has now inspired a memorial to the former slave.
