Miranda Sawyer talks to Francis Le,e director of Ammonite and God's Own Country

Born and raised in Halifax, West Yorkshire on a farm Francis Lee first worked as an actor. From London he moved back to Yorkshire and worked seven days a week in a scrapyard. The cash he earned funded a short film, and kept him afloat while he wrote the first draft of what would become his breakthrough, debut feature God鈥檚 Own Country, which was nominated for nominated Outstanding British Film at Bafta. His most recent film Ammonite stars Kate Winslet as Mary Anning, a pioneering English fossil collector in the 19th century who develops a lesbian relationship with a young woman named Charlotte Murchison.

Francis talks to Miranda about why he wrote God's Own Country and Ammonite, the importance of gay voices in all aspects of film making and the music that has helped him create along the way.
