Fair Isle, River Devon and the Royal Highland Showcase

Euan McIlwraith and Laura Guthrie with stories from the great outdoors.

Fiona Clark has been ringside for 主播大秀 Scotland鈥檚 Landward programme at the Royal Highland Showcase at Ingliston this week. Exhibitors have been attending with their animals but there have been none of the usual Highland Show crowds. She chatted to Alain Laidlaw, Chief Executive of the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland, about how the event came together.

Our midweek podcast this week features musician and composer Inge Thomson who chatted to Mark and Helen about growing up in Fair Isle, the small island that sits between Orkney and Shetland.

And we also chat live to Douglas Barr, Chair of the Fair Isle Bird Observatory Trust about what stage they are at in rebuilding the world-famous bird observatory after it was destroyed by fire in 2019.

The Scottish Crannog Centre was also recently impacted by fire when their replica crannog was burnt down last weekend. Euan finds out about their fundraising efforts and their plans to continue.

Mark spends time with nature writer Keith Broomfield on the River Devon in Clackmannanshire. They chat about the dynamic nature of the river and the changing flora and fauna that can be found there.

Laura visits the Dunkeld and Birnam Community Orchard to hear about how it has grown into a success.

Fiona Clark tells us how the atmosphere at the Royal Highland Showcase has been different to a Royal Highland Show and chats to a Clydesdale horse breeder about what it鈥檚 been to take part in the event.

Euan has another mystery bird to test our avian knowledge.

And Mark has been musing about the return of the swallow.
