Manchester International Festival special with Billy Nomates and DJ Paulette

Mark and Stuart host a special programme celebrating this year鈥檚 Manchester International Festival with guests including Billy Nomates, DJ Paulette and animator Naaman Azhari

Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie present a feast of great music and chat for weekend breakfast

Today they host the second of two special programmes celebrating this year鈥檚 Manchester International Festival. With guests and a selection of music, they explore the highlights of the festival line-up. The city鈥檚 arts festival is staged every two years and features original brand new works and special events. Many of this year鈥檚 works have been created over the past year and offer an interesting snapshot of these unprecedented times.

Today their guests include musician Billy Nomates, DJ Paulette and animator Naaman Azhari.

Billy Nomates AKA Tor Maries released her self-titled debut album last year and has recently collaborated with Sleaford Mods. Originally from Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, she now lives between Bristol and Bournemouth. She will be in Manchester to perform a live set as part of Manchester International Festival (MIF) this year. She features on the line-up at Festival Square in Manchester city centre, alongside many other musicians, DJs and performers including another of today鈥檚 guests DJ Paulette.

Manchester legend DJ Paulette has played at some of the city鈥檚 most famous clubs and nights including The Hacienda and Homoelectric, as well as holding residencies at some of the biggest clubs in the world. As well as DJ sets at MIF鈥檚 Festival Square this year, she is also hosting events with the likes of Norman Jay MBE and Lamb鈥檚 Lou Rhodes.

Animator and short film director Naaman Azhari joins Mark and Stuart to discuss his latest project. He has created a film with choreographer Akram Khan called 鈥楤reathless Puppets鈥, as part of MIF鈥檚 Postcards From Now, five new films from artists in lockdown. The short film uses rotoscope animation, created by hand-drawing over live action footage.

Mark and Stuart also chat to MIF鈥檚 Head Of Music Jane Beese about the festival鈥檚 music line-up.

Plus a finely balanced blend of new and old music, setting you up for a Sunday.
