X-Ray Records

Cerys delves into her own collection to bring you the perfect soundtrack to your sunny Sunday. Her guest is Stephen Coates who found a vinyl record cut onto an old x-ray in Russia

In honour of Record Store Day Cerys speaks to Stephen Coates about Russian X-Ray vinyl. Stephen found a vinyl-type disc cut onto an x-ray in a St. Petersburg flea market and has been fascinated ever since. His passion to know more about these unusual discs has led him to research the history of Soviet counter-culture of making illegal music and bootleggers copying them in 1940's USSR.

Music journalist Garth Cartwright who has travelled the length and breadth of the UK visiting record shops shares some of the treasures he unearthed whilst crate digging in vinyl boutiques to industry pillar stores. Garth takes us to Liverpool, Belfast and Brighton & Hove.

Plus Cerys brings you a taste of her eclectic record collection to soundtrack your perfect Sunday morning. This week her selection ranges from Jamila & The Other Heroes to Barry White's The Love Unlimited Orchestra and from Sun Ra to Public Service Broadcasting.

Cerys also raids the 主播大秀 Archive to bring you the voice of Wally Funk, the first female air safety investigator, pilot who was part of NASA's Mercury 13 Women's astronaut program. We also hear from Bartholomaeus Traubeck who took cross sections of trees and converted their rings to play them like a vinyl record.
