The Poet Tree: Rachel Long

Cerys has an in-depth conversation with poet Rachel Long about her influences, inspirations and work. Plus she raids her record collection for an eclectic joyous Sunday soundtrack

Cerys has an in-depth conversation with poet Rachel Long in The Poet Tree, discussing her work, influences and inspirations. Rachel also shares records where the lyrics have had an impact on her personally and shines a light on contemporary poets.

Rachel Long was nudged our way by Kei Miller in the July instalment of The Poet Tree as one of the writers he admires. In 2020 Rachel's debut collection, My Darling from the Lions was published and subsequently nominated for numerous awards including the Forward Prize for Best First Collection and the Jhalak Prize Book of the Year by a Writer of Colour. She is the founder of Octavia Poetry Collective for women of colour and has taught poetry workshops at The Poetry School and Oxford University.

And Cerys also raids her record collection for hidden gems, crossing continents and genres as well as bringing you her latest finds from around the globe. This week there's new music from Jules Buckley and The Heritage Orchestra, Balimaya Project, Leeds' Gotts Street Park and Red Deer Sleeping, mixed with classics from Aretha Franklin, Miles Davis and The Fairport Convention.
