with Sally Magnusson

Sally Magnusson returns to Sunday Mornings with a series of Edinburgh International Book Festival inspired programmes, including Kate Mosse and Caleb Azumah Nelson.

New writer Caleb Azumah Nelson discusses his debut novel Open Water about the experience of a Black photographer in London, and the pervasive and crippling judgment that being Black brings with it.

Sally is also joined by acclaimed poet and activist Salena Godden whose first book Mrs Death Misses Death is a wry, caustic and funny musing on what might happen if Death were a shape-shifting working-class Black woman.

Caleb and Salena discuss with Sally their own reactions to recent events such as the racist abuse received by English football players after the Euros, and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Historical novelist Kate Mosse talks about her new book An Extra Pair Of Hands which sees the bestselling author move from historical fiction into a deeply personal memoir about caring for her elderly parents and mother-in-law, and the emotional and physical challenges of tending to the needs of ageing relatives.

Edinburgh novelist Sara Sheridan reveals why she chose the 1822 visit of King George IV to the capital as the setting for her novel about a perfumier in the Botanic gardens.

And Kate Mosse joins her to talk about their shared love of the night and why it inspires both fear and creativity in equal measure.

Photographer Simon Murphy has travelled the world with his camera but for the past 20 years he鈥檚 also been taking portraits of people living in in his home area of Govanhill in Glasgow. Reporter Monica Brown visits an exhibition of his work in the windows of local shops and Simon joins Sally to discuss how documenting a community in such a way reveals the gradual evolution of society.
