A Meeting of Minds

Three conversations on the joy of food, the recent demise of the name Karen, and keeping the spirit of adventure alive with Parkinson's Disease. Fi Glover presents.

In this week's programme, Fi Glover presents four lively conversations between strangers: Adrian, a chef and lover of food, and Jules, who has long-struggled to master the basics in the kitchen; British Indian Michelin-starred chef Alfred, and Mark who runs a successful family-owned fish and chip business; septuagenarians Maura and Keith who have both been diagnosed with Parkinson鈥檚 Disease but lost none of their zest for adventure; and two women who share the same name - Karen - and their thoughts on their name being used in a derogatory way to symbolise difficult white women with prejudiced attitudes.

The Listening Project is a Radio 4 initiative that offers a snapshot of contemporary Britain in which people across the UK volunteer to have a conversation. The
conversations are being gathered across the UK by teams of producers from local and national radio stations who facilitate each encounter. Every conversation lasts up to an hour, and is then edited to extract the key moments of connection between the participants. Most of the unedited conversations are being archived by the British Library and used to build up a collection of voices capturing a unique portrait of the UK in this decade of the millennium.
