with Cathy Macdonald

Former priest Brian Devlin on the Cardinal Keith O'Brien abuse scandal; Jason Leitch on an inspiring hymn; 20th Anniversary of 9/11 attacks & the consequences felt closer to home.

Cathy Macdonald speaks to former priest Brian Devlin, who was one of the lead whistle-blowers in the Cardinal Keith O’Brien abuse scandal in 2013. The experience took an incredible toll on him, which he recounts in his book Cardinal Sin.

Scotland's National Clinical Director, Professor Jason Leitch, takes his medical hat off to reflect on something altogether different, a piece of music that inspires him and enriches his faith.

It may not be a holy place but many religious groups are currently making pilgrimages to Glasgow, as they walk for climate justice, hoping to eventually arrive in the city for the COP26 gathering. Cathy is joined by Annika Spalde who is leading a pilgrimage from Sweden to Glasgow, and Melanie Nazareth who is planning to walk from London.

With Afghanistan in turmoil and many desperate to leave the country to find safe refuge, Cathy finds out what it takes for refugees to settle in a new place, with Youssef Al Hariri, a Syrian refugee who arrived in Edinburgh in 2017, Director of Afghan Human Rights Foundation, Mohammad N Asif who came to the UK from Afghanistan in 2000, and Dr Salma Siddique, Clinical Anthropologist and a practicing psychotherapist who works with asylum seekers and refugees.

As we prepare to mark the 20th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks in The United States, Dr Aman de Sondy, Senior Lecturer in Contemporary Islam at University College Cork, joins psychotherapist Dr Salma Siddique to look at a new documentary ‘After 9/11: Scotland's Story’, which examines some of the consequences that were felt by people here, both then and now.

And accomplished academics Salma and Aman give their take on the new Netflix comedy drama The Chair, starring Sandra Oh, which explores the issues and conundrums faced by academics including race, gender and ageism.
