Episode 6 of 6

A quiet start to the night shift is broken by a 999 call on behalf of a 13-year-old patient who is stuck on a bus having dislocated her knee.

The episode joins the North West Ambulance Service as the Covid-19 vaccine rollout is beginning to take effect. The service has so far managed to vaccinate 70 per cent of its frontline workforce.

A quiet start to the night shift is broken by a 999 call on behalf of a 13-year-old patient who is stuck on a bus having dislocated her knee. She is unable to move and in severe pain, so the crew have no choice but to try to get the knee back in place at the scene.

Across the city, crewmates Adam and Charlotte respond to a call for a patient who is struggling to breathe. As Covid-19 has already affected the patient's family, the crew have no choice but to take them to hospital. Another patient with breathing difficulties is reluctant to go to hospital for fear of catching the virus there. However, Covid-related deaths in the UK are at their lowest since December, and call volumes to the service are also down.

Later, Adam and Charlotte are dispatched to a patient who is lapsing in and out of consciousness. When they arrive on scene, they suspect the patient may have suffered a stroke. Elsewhere, Emily and Lois attend to a patient who has taken an overdose of prescribed medication. As the patient is sent to hospital, it becomes clear that their anxiety has been exacerbated by months of isolation.
