You & Yours has an exclusive investigation into lasting power of attorney fraud. We hear from a woman who discovered a government department had granted a criminal complete control over her financial life. A total stranger had forged a form and been granted genuine lasting power of attorney over our listener's affairs. This powerful document was then used to try and steal her home without her knowledge. The Office of the Public Guardian is the government body that approves such applications, it says that such cases of abuse are rare, however You & Yours has discovered that identity checks are not routinely done. The Office of the Public Guardian has confirmed that it has investigated this case, and the lasting power of attorney has been removed from the register and the matter has been reported to the police.
For many fans, gig tickets are important mementos and even collector's items. Increasingly concert tickets are only issued in a digital format, leaving you without that physical souvenir. Ticketmaster is introducing a new souvenir paper ticket, but you have to pay extra for it and wait a week. We hear from music fans about the appeal of saving your gig tickets.
The government offered 'Bounce Back' loans to businesses struggling as a result of the covid-19 pandemic and associated restrictions. The loans were up to 拢50,000 were government backed, protecting the lender if the business failed to repay. The first twelve months of the loans were interest free, but now those payments are due and many businesses say they aren't in a position to pay yet. A campaign is now encouraging businesses to challenge those loans.
