Seonaid Aitken looks back at some of the jazz highlights from 2021. Despite the ongoing challenges of the pandemic, the Scottish jazz community has continued to make a steady recovery , with many heart-warming stories emerging along the way. We hear from some of the artists who have had their most successful year to date, by signing their biggest deals, playing the largest venues and some who have starting out new ventures during this time including DJ Rebecca Vasmant, Norman Willmore, Georgia Cecile and Corto Alto. 2021 has also been a big year for centenary celebrations including those of trumpeter Humphrey Lyttleton and pianists Erroll Garner & Billy Taylor. We pay tribute to these great artists in tonight鈥檚 Song Book with Richard Michael, including a reflective duet featuring Seonaid and Richard performing Taylor鈥檚 鈥業 Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free鈥�. Plus we鈥檒l be spinning the best of the new releases along with plenty of classics, as we enter December and look forward to the new jazz adventures which 2022 may have in store.
