Southern Upland Way

With 71 miles left of his journey along the Southern Upland Way, Iain Robertson is joined by photographer Elaine Livingston and River City co-star Grant Stott on the last leg of his 215-mile walk.

With 71 miles left to tackle on the Southern Upland Way, Iain Robertson is joined by photographer Elaine Livingstone on the walk across to Traquair. They are hopeful of making their way to the famous Traquair House, the oldest inhabited house in Scotland, where they will enjoy a tour of the house's micro-brewery.

Parting company with Elaine, Iain continues to ramble across the country, enjoying hidden gems such as the Cheese Well along the way. He is joined the next day by his River City co-star Grant Stott. The pair head towards Lauder, with Grant sharing anecdotes about his time as a Borders police officer as a youth.

Iain then sets off sets off towards that elusive east coast, dodging an aggressive looking herd of cows, passing over the Lammermoor Hills made famous by a Donizetti opera, and even uncovering the mystery of the Gurkha Bridge in Abbey St Bathans.

The final day of his trek sees Iain navigate his way across a furiously busy A1 as he finally approaches the coast, where a glimpse of the North Sea stops him in his tracks. On his way down to the coast, he stops by Cove Harbour, 'the spiritual end' of the Southern Upland Way, before finally reaching the end in Cockburnspath.
