Edinburgh Special

Episode 1 of 5

From Fringe veteran Susie McCabe to Scot Squad star Stuart McPherson to circus performer Sadiq Ali and Scottish-African ensemble Shona the Musical, Loop discovers the sights and sounds of Edinburgh.

Fringe veteran Susie McCabe reveals the inner workings behind her latest production, Born Believer. From social class to sexuality to her Catholic faith, Susie explains how her milestone 40th birthday led her to question the influences in her life and prompted a higher calling to leave the world a little nicer than she found it.

Stuart McPherson, writer, comedian and Scot Squad star, also presents his highly personal Edinburgh festival show which explores life living with alopecia and the acceptance and resistance the diagnosis brings.

Edinburgh-based circus performer Sadiq Ali shares his highly emotive personal story as he prepares to bring his autobiographical performance The Chosen Haram to the Fringe for the first time. A love story told through the medium of Chinese pole and physical theatre, Ali鈥檚 work is inspired by his queer Muslim upbringing and his determination to challenge perceptions of being HIV positive, following his own diagnosis.

Loop also meets the creatives behind Shona the Musical, an energetic Scottish-African choir based in Edinburgh, to discover how their rich harmonies, African drumming, joyful dancing and colourful costumes combine in a love story which transcends racial and cultural divides.
