Gary West brings you a studio session from Xavier Boderiou who hails from Brittany in the North West of France. Xavier is something of an all rounder when it comes to the music of the bagpipe, performing on highland pipes, uillean pipes and flute, while drawing on repertoire from Scotland and Ireland as well as from his native Breton tradition. He is also a prolific composer, and if that is not enough, is a skilled bagpipe maker into the bargain! Tonight he draws on all of these to bring us an eclectic mix of music, including dance tunes from Brittany, and a pibroch from the deep well of Scotland鈥檚 cultural past. There are tunes also from two players who have inspired him over the years, Jack Lee and John McSherry, as well as a set from one of his former pipe bands, the Shotts and Dykehead, while we kick the show off with a track from a brand new and much anticipated album from the star pairing of Brighde Chaimbeul and Ross Ainslie.
