Joy Dunlop: Breabach and Gaelictronica

Breabach celebrate the natural world in new album ¹óà²õ and Joy explores the world of Gaelictronica with Mòd Chief Exec James Graham & Mòd Gold medallist Alyth McCormack

The mighty Breabach are back with their first full-length album in four years, set for release on Friday 14th October. The album entitled ¹óà²õ - a Gaelic word meaning ‘growth’, ‘developing’ and ‘sprouting’ - is heavily inspired by the natural environment of Scotland and sees the band showcase more progressive elements in their music than ever before. The protection, conservation and regeneration of the natural world influenced every part of the album making process, from song composition and sourcing material to the recording process and album production. James Lindsay and Megan Henderson from the band join Joy live in studio to delve into the album.

Plus, in celebration of the Royal National Mòd kicking off this weekend, we're exploring Gaelictronica. The fusion of Gaelic song and electronic music has grown exponentially in popularity in recent years but how do these two worlds come together? And what part do tradition bearers such as the Mòd still have to play in today's scene? Joy is joined in conversation by Mòd Chief Exec James Graham and Gold medallist Alyth McCormack.
