Tom chats to LA producer and artist Nosaj Thing about his new album 鈥楥ontinua鈥�, and LA-based Iranian-American producer and DJ Maral ahead of her mix for The Ravers Hour.
Nosaj Thing's new album 鈥楥ontinua鈥� features HYUKOH, Julianna Barwick, Pink Siifu, Toro y Moi, Kazu Makino (Blonde Redhead), Pink Siifu, serpentwithfeet, Mike Andrews, & Eyedress. It comes five years since his last album, 鈥楶arallels鈥�.
Maral has just released 鈥楪round Groove鈥� her third full-length release. She draws upon a vast personal archive of Iranian folk, classical, and pop recordings (some sourced from mixtapes made by her parents in the eighties/nineties).
She speaks of being in collaboration with her samples, treating each as a distinct bandmate, often consulting with an artist鈥檚 catalog (or even a single recording) as one would a trusted creative partner.
