The number of working days lost to strikes last month reached the highest in more than a decade, according to official figures out this morning.
The Office for National Statistics said 417,000 working days were lost because of labour disputes in October 2022 - the highest since November 2011. It comes as members of the RMT union have begun the first of two 48 hours stoppages -- as a fresh series of strikes threatens to cause significant disruption to key services ahead of Christmas. The action will severely reduce Scotland's train network until Sunday. Meanwhile Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said he is working on "new tough laws" to protect people from strike disruption.
