Award-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes presents a mix of music from his teenage years of 1980-1981, which is also when his new movie Empire of Light is set. Including a music from the likes of Talking Heads, Grace Jones, Elvis Costello and Simple Minds.

A prolific writer and director, Sam Mendes won an Academy Award for Best Director with his directorial debut American Beauty in 1999. Since then he's worked across film and the stage, with his filmography including the multi-award-winning 1917, an adaptation of the novel Revolutionary Road and two James Bond films - Skyfall and Spectre. His latest film, Empire of Light, is set in a cinema in a seaside town in the early 1980s. It stars Olivia Coleman and Michael Ward and features music from contemporary artists of the time such as The Beat and The Specials.
