The Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

The Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race is an offshore race with an international reputation that transcends sailing's perceived boundaries and is an icon of Australian summer sport.

First run in 1945, Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race is an offshore race with an international reputation that transcends sailing's perceived boundaries and is an icon of Australian summer sport. The Boxing Day start in Sydney Harbour, has evolved into a glorious spectacle watched by huge, enthralled crowds. With over 600 nautical miles of precarious ocean ahead before the boats reach Hobart, Tasmania, this is arguably sailing's greatest examination of skill and character. This edition of The Spirit of Yachting tells the story of the race through three different sets of competitors; the battle for Line Honours with Christian Beck and his yacht Law Connect, for Overall Victory with Tom Kneen and Sunrise, and the amateur entry Antipodes and Australian owner Geoff Hill.
