Remembering the Princess Victoria tragedy

Olivia Nash and Gibson Young discuss the Princess Victoria tragedy 70 years on. Also – a celebration of Sam Henry’s ‘Songs of the People’ and some wonderful new Ulster Scots prose.

Actress Olivia Nash and Kintra regular Gibson Young discuss the Princess Victoria tragedy 70 years on. 135 people lost their life as the ferry travelled from Stranraer to Larne (Olivia’s home town) and she vividly remembers the trauma of that awful night – and the many services in the days after. Jonnie celebrates Sam Henry’s ‘Songs of the People’ with Matt Warrick as the team listen to some of the music recordings inspired by the lyrics and songs Henry encountered. Meanwhile, Helen has been to the Linenhall Library to meet – and hear a reading from - the winners of the prose section of the library’s Ulster Scots writing competition.
As always, listeners are invited to contact the programme with a good Ulster-Scots yarn or event to talk about. The easiest way to do that is by email - kintra@bbc.co.uk.
