Su-a Lee

Edi Stark in conversation with the South Korean born Scottish Chamber Orchestra cellist.

Edi’s guest is one of Scotland’s busiest and popular musicians. With her cello she calls Stella, Su-a Lee is immediately recognisable with her trademark streak of crimson hair. A clue to her vibrant personality. She was born in South Korea and came to the UK when she was one and as she tells Edi, she was blessed by people who supported her musically. At the age of nine she gained a scholarship to the prestigious Cheetham’s music school in Manchester and went from there to study in New York and is now assistant principal cellist with Scottish Chamber. Scotland has always been a great love….and a place for healing. In a personal tribute, she climbed Ben Nevis in snow to play a lament in memory of her first husband who died shortly after they were married, but wonderfully, she has married again…to folk composer and musician Hamish Napier. This is a riveting and beautiful life story.
