Just who were the border reivers, and what鈥檚 their connection with Ulster?

Helen Mark visits Hawick in Scotland to find out about the historical connections between the border reivers and Ulster.

On the ferry to Scotland, Helen meets children from Lisbellaw Primary School who are travelling to take part in the Hawick Reivers Festival. Her visit includes a local ghost walk, the festival parade and the interschools games. In conversations with organisers, local historians and Ulster-Scots participants, she discovers the strong links between the border reivers and Fermanagh in particular. The clues are in the names!
As always, listeners are encouraged to contact the programme if they鈥檝e a good Ulster-Scots yarn, song or event to talk about. The easiest way to do that is by email - kintra@bbc.co.uk.
