A proposal to allow assisted dying for terminally ill patients has been given the backing of ethical experts. The group of professors from leading Scottish universities are supporting the bill put forward by MSP Liam McArthur. The law would allow people over the age of 16 to end their life - as long as they are mentally competent and able to take the medication themselves. Faith leaders are opposed to the legislation, saying it undermines the dignity of the human person.
