More plans shelved at Derry's Crescent Link

Marks and Spencer becomes the latest major retailer to shelve plans for a larger store at Derry's Crescent Link as frustration grows with planning delays.

A Foyle MLA calls for a revamp of the planning process after Marks and Spencer pulled plans for a larger store at the Crescent link in Derry because of a series of planning delays. Gary Middleton was expressing frustration at the move, which was part of a 拢5million plan, which developers believed would attract 110 new jobs. The property group that owns Crescent Link Retail Park described the move as "deeply disappointing" after frozen food retailer Iceland also pulled the plug on plans last year. David Samuel Properties said the announcement "comes at a challenging time for the retail sector as it comes to terms with the increase in online shopping and high inflation, but the challenges with the planning system in Northern Ireland have made further investment increasingly difficult."

"We remain committed to investment in the layout and management of the car park and are looking to bring forward alternative proposals in the near future. David Samuel Properties remain committed to both Crescent Link Retail Park and Lisnagelvin Retail Park."
