"You have to hold the poker close for an Al Martino song!"

Sean explains how front room singers using a poker instead of a microphone have to hold it the right way.

"What a great, great poker song!" Sean says. He's been playing Al Martino singing Spanish Eyes for Stretch. "I want to ask you this now, Stretch. When your uncle, or whoever was singing that song, using the poker for the microphone, when they came to the high parts, did they take the poker away from their mouth? I bet they did!"

"Yes!" Stretch says. "Not only should the poker be held away at the high part - when a man hit the high part he held the poker away from his mouth - but the last line particularly in a slow ballad, should be spoken and not sung!"

"I remember that!" Sean says. "And the man would have held the poker closer to his mouth, in case the people wouldn't hear him!"

With music from Jimmy Cliff, Talking Heads, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and more (including Al Martino!).
