John Wilson and his orchestral supergroup the Sinfonia of London return to the Proms to perform Rachmaninov鈥檚 famous Second Piano Concerto with pianist and new Radio 3 New Generation Artist, Alim Beisembayev. The concert opens with Lili Boulanger鈥檚 mercurial tone-poem D鈥檜n matin de printemps, composed shortly before her tragically early death at the age of only 24. Walton鈥檚 First Symphony provides the arresting conclusion: a young man鈥檚 musical manifesto, composed between the two World Wars, it鈥檚 a white-hot outpouring of personal conflict that resolves (or does it?) into a glowing ceremonial finale.
