British record holder Dina Asher-Smith is among a formidable cast of contenders in the women’s 100m, with tonight’s final set to be one of the highlights of the championships.

The Jamaicans swept the medals last summer and ‘Pocket Rocket’ Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce returns in search of a record-equalling sixth title in a single event, while 2022 runner-up Shericka Jackson went equal fifth on the world all-time list last month with a winning time of 10.65 seconds to become her country's national champion. Asher-Smith ran a lifetime best of 10.84 to finish fourth last year, but the re-emergence of American Sha’Carri Richardson and the form of Marie-Josée Ta Lou and Julien Alfred have added even greater depth to the event.

Grant Holloway is vying for a hat trick of world titles in the sprint hurdles, while the men’s triple jump and discus finals reach their climax.
