Morgan’s furniture is beautifully crafted, but he lacks the confidence to really sell it. Cath’s life-sized fantastical willow-woven creatures are unique – but are they saleable?

The UK is a nation of talented makers, but turning our passions into profits isn’t easy. In this series, aspiring makers are given the opportunity to turn their hobbies and skills into money-making businesses by joining Dom Chinea at a life-changing training camp in the grounds of a beautifully preserved arts and crafts house in Leicestershire.

Mentored by Dom and a team of successful artisans and makers, they tackle three making challenges designed to assess their skill and money-making potential. The high-volume challenge tests if the makers can produce saleable items quickly and cheaply, the high-end challenge explores their potential to sell at the top end of the market, and the favourite piece challenge reminds the makers what they love about their craft in the first place. Challenges done, it’s out into the real world to put theory into practice and start selling their creations. Can they turn enough profit to give up the day job?

Stepping into the Makers’ Marquee are Cath from Cheshire and Morgan from Oxfordshire, both hoping to turn their talent into profitable businesses. Cleaner Cath wants to swap the day job for a willow-weaving business and is hoping Dom and his team can help. But mentor Eddie is worried that Cath’s giant life-sized fantastical beasts and fairies are not saleable, and he urges Cath to rethink her business model. For furniture maker Morgan, it’s all about having confidence in his skills as mentor Alice tries to convince him to believe in himself and his work. Both makers are given eight weeks to put their mentors’ advice into practice. But can they make enough money to follow their dreams?
