Life After: Derry’s roads safety charity gets a new home

Founder of Derry charity ‘Life After’ Christopher Sherrard and bereaved group members discuss their ongoing campaigning for road safety having each lost family on local roads.

Mark speaks with bereaved families who have lost relatives on local roads as they continue to campaign for road safety revisions in the North West. Christopher Sherrard, who founded the charity 'Life After', has campaigned for road safety and family support since losing his dad Wilson on the roads back in 2016. This week, up inside the city walls, ‘Life After’ has been gifted it's very own Portakabin, which finally gives the group a place to meet and which will be opened by Derry City and Strabane District Council Major Patricia Logue tomorrow.

Members of ‘Life After’ shared their own personal experiences having lost family members on local roads. Amongst those are Sheila Stewart who lost her mum and an aunt 30 years ago at Newton. Parents David and Barbara Campbell lost their daughter Patricia on the old A6 near the Belfry back in 2017. Patricia’s sister Anthea also joined us. They talk about the benefits of this service and their campaigning hopes.

Local ukulele players Trevor Keyes and Patrick Mc Dermott, aka Paddy Digit, join us live in studio for an acoustic session. They gifted the programme with three live performances. Trevor performs, ‘How Great Thou Art’, Paddy gives us an acoustic of 'Little Old Wine Drinker Me' and both men play us out with a duet of ‘Wooden Heart’.

Lastly, as always our expert Chef Brian joins us to share his succulent roast meats recipes as well as a follow up on his crowd pleasing sauce secrets.

After the News at One on Twenty Minutes with Mark Patterson we talk to Loganair Chief Executive Jonathan Hinkles about the new Heathrow route, flight prices from the City of Derry airport and will the Derry to Dublin route ever be reintroduced?
