Celebrating John Clifford in Larne, remembering Ballyhalbert’s past and reawakening an old pipe band.

A window on Larne’s past through the John Clifford exhibition, grave matters in Ballyhalbert and after a decade’s ‘rest’, a 70-year-old pipe band is reawakened.

Helen takes a trip to Larne to hear more about the exhibition celebrating John Clifford’s life and meets family members – his son Raymond recites his dad’s poem about The Ballyboley Pipe Band.
Rab’s first foray into the world of pipes and drums was in the Queen Elizabeth Pipe Band and he’s delighted they’re celebrating 70 years of music with a new lease of life after a few years ‘resting’.
Mark Thompson tells Etta Halliday how Ballyhalbert almost stole Ballycarry’s thunder as the site for Ireland’s first Presbyterian Church – he’s part of the community group that maintains the old churchyard.
As always, the team loves to hear from listeners with an Ulster-Scots yarn to share or event to promote – or who’d just like to say hello! You can reach them by email - kintra@bbc.co.uk.
