Derry's costume makers gear up for Halloween!

Shipquay Fabrics, the heart of Halloween, a new addition to the festivities this year, The Black Hall and Zombie Culture at the University of Ulster.

Today’s opener came from a little nook, a little cranny 3 & 4 stories up that many would define as a proper Derry institution. For decades Shipquay Fabrics has been the heart of Halloween and it is there you will find everything required for the perfect costume. There’s a new addition to Derry’s Halloween festivities this year, The Black Hall, a haunted house right in the middle of the city in St Columb’s Hall curated by Derry playwright, Jonathan Burgess. Jonathan joins Mark in studio to chat about The Black Hall experience through a live studio performance with ‘The Lady’. The idea of the living dead has been part of folklore and myths for centuries. This Halloween Ulster University have invited over 80 Academics from various universities to come to Derry to explore Zombie Culture and to take part in the first ever Global Zombie Studies Symposium. Dr Victoria McCallum from the University of Ulster gives Mark the low down on the event.
