A white Jesus in a white world? Christianity and the portrayal of Christ

Traditional images of Jesus depict him as a blue-eyed white man, rather than the dark skinned, brown-eyed Palestinian he undoubtedly was. Artistic licence or something more?

Traditional images of Jesus depict him as a blue-eyed white man, rather than the dark skinned, brown-eyed Palestinian he undoubtedly was.
Does that matter?
Would Christianity be different and have acted differently in the past, and indeed in the present day, if Jesus was depicted as he really was?
Would it have had an impact on how we viewed colour and race? After all, if Jesus is perfection and is white, does it follow that any derivation of that is some way from being Godly?
