New research has found new cars in the EU and UK have grown 1cm wider every two years and show no sign of slowing down. This creates problems with things like parking and road safety for fellow drivers and pedestrians.
Eco campaign group Transport & Environment says more than half of new cars sold in 2023 were too wide for the minimum specified on-street parking space (180cm) in major UK cities.
