Since Barbie’s debut in 1959, more than a billion dolls have been sold in a variety of models. Natasha meets a collector who owns some very special examples.

Since the Hollywood move was released, vintage Barbie dolls have shot up in value. Natasha Raskin Sharp meets collector Dawn Austin, whose collection of more than 800 dolls takes up an entire room of her house! Natasha learns that some vintage models are worth thousands, but does a first edition Ken doll command the same price as an early Barbie?

In the Derbyshire town of Heanor, experts Mark Stacey and Catherine Southon lead the reds and blues around a huge antiques centre. Mark guides couple Terry and Alison, who plan to ‘spend little and win big’, while Catherine’s team, Craig and Dave, are looking for ‘things that are big, bold and beautiful’.

During their shop, Dave spots a bingo ball wheel – but would they hit the jackpot if they took it to auction? Meanwhile, Terry has his eye on a giant eagle, but Mark’s not sure the carved bird will fly with the bidders at Colin Young’s saleroom in Grantham.
