The Ulster-Scots, Chinese Crossover Show!

Celebrating the links between the Ulster-Scots and Chinese communities in Northern Ireland.

Proving that sometimes the best ideas happen by accident – this show started out as a simple visit to an event - as part of a regular edition of Kintra. But Helen Mark found the Ulster-Scots & Chinese Fusion Festival so fascinating – it eventually took over this entire programme!

Helen visited the Discover Ulster-Scots Centre earlier this month and – as well as witnessing a ‘drum off’ between a Chinese drum and a Lambeg – spoke to some hugely engaging folk who were able to explain just why there’s more of a crossover between the Ulster-Scots and Chinese communities here than you may have thought.

Also - listen out for a true radio first – a speech in Ulster-Scots being translated live into Chinese! Here’s hoping some of our Chinese friends here are now using words like ‘foundered’ and ‘craic’….

As always, listeners are invited to contact the programme with a good Ulster-Scots yarn or event to talk about. The easiest way to do that is by email - kintra@bbc.co.uk.
