Too young for school at 5?

The primary education system has barely changed in generations. Is it time to take a more flexible approach to learning and, in particular, the age we start school?

Do you remember your first day at school at the ripe old age of 5 years old? Did you see it through and stay on in secondary education until you were 18? School takes up a large proportion of our young lives, and the format for learning and the structure of the school day has, for the best part, remained largely unchanged. But given that there is still so much to learn about how our brains and memories work, should we take a more flexible approach to learning?
Presenter Audrey Carville in conversation with child psychologist and Founder of Good Play Guide Dr Amanda Gummer, Chris Donnelly, principal of St John the Baptist primary school in Belfast and Neuroscientist Dr Rachel Taylor.
