Vintage TV

Episode 12 of 30

Nigel Havers presides as five sellers aim to get the best price for their items, including Murano glass fruit, a TV, a cocktail cabinet, a 1920s purse and a dentist’s lamp.

Nigel Havers welcomes sellers of collectibles and curiosities to the Bidding Room's new home in Edinburgh, where they ply their wares to five dealers.

First through the doors are twin sisters Linda and Nicola with a healthy group of glass fruit and vegetables. Started from a single gift from sister Nicola, Linda has built the collection over a number of years, but now she’s ready to sell them on to make space on her dining table. With their two-pronged approach amongst the dealers, will the twins’ efforts in the Bidding Room be fruitful?

Next in is Gavin with a nostalgic piece of tech. His retro television was a fond reminder of a similar set his grandfather once owned, but with little time to restore the piece he’s decided to bring it to the Bidding Room. Gavin is hopeful the dealers will have equally fond memories, but for our youngest buyer, JB, the idea of a television with no remote control is an alien concept.

Third in to the Bidding Room is Simon. He’s got some mid-century furniture he’s hoping the dealers will be raising a toast to. The Danish cocktail cabinet finds favour on the auction floor, but can Simon raise enough money for a charity that’s personal to him?

Arriving at our Edinburgh HQ next is Jane with a purse that’s been living in a drawer since she inherited it from her grandmother. Thought to have been in her family for decades, Simon imparts some valuable information to Jane so she’s well armed to get the dealer in a flap over her early 20th-century accessory.

Finally, it’s Sam with his ten-year-old son Max. They’re keen buyers at auction and have bagged a vintage dentist lamp for just £8. Dentist-phobic Nigel isn’t charmed by the light, but Sam and Max are hoping for a more positive reaction amongst the dealers to raise enough money for their next restoration project.

The dealers today are Ian, Estelle, Moses, Lucy and JB.
