'And we say 'aye' for 'yes' and 'yes' for hello!'
Patrick in Derry is wondering why we says 'yes' when we mean 'hello'.
鈥淚 have another local saying,鈥� says Patrick in Derry. 鈥楬e's got a gob on him like Shipquay Gate鈥�, meaning he's got a big mouth. And why do we say 鈥榓ye鈥� in Derry, meaning 鈥榶es鈥�? I am wondering if it's to do with the sailors who used to be based in Derry during the war. And now we all say 鈥榓ye鈥� for 鈥榶es鈥�, and we say 鈥榶es鈥� for 鈥榟ello鈥�.鈥�
