(SDW) is a UK charity supporting vulnerable communities and wildlife in drylands with sand dams; a sustainable and cost-effective rainwater harvesting technology that can provide a lifelong, reliable and clean water resource.

The survival of the African elephant is in jeopardy, as they need up to 300 litres of water a day to thrive. But as prolonged droughts have become more frequent due to climate change, many water sources they rely on have dried up completely.

A lifeline for Kenya鈥檚 elephants
13 sand dams have been built in Kenya鈥檚 Tsavo conservation area, a region where around 40 per cent of Kenya鈥檚 elephants live. SDW is raising funds to build 3 more, to help elephants and other wildlife there.聽

Clean water for generations

Clean water for generations
Sand dams can last more than 60 years and capture up to 40 million litres of water every rainy season. This is ideal for elephants who, during dry seasons, are often found digging for water along dry riverbeds.
