New York Hijabis

Singer Nicola Roberts and Vlogger Nabiilabee head to New York to investigate what it means to be a Muslim woman who wants to dress modestly but fashionably in Trump's America.

Having met in 2015 whilst making the Radio 1 documentary 'High Street Hijabis', former Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts and YouTube vlogger Nabiilabee return to investigate what it means to be a Muslim woman who wants to dress modestly but fashionably in Trump's America.

With exclusive backstage access to Indonesian designer Anniesa Hasibuan's 2017 New York Fashion Week Show, which featured an all hijabi model line-up on the catwalk and immigrant models, this timely documentary shines a light on an industry that by 2019 is estimated to be worth $327 billion.
'New York Hijabis' also meets with designers, journalists, activists, modeling agents and social media influencers to better understand the scene and explore the differences between the industry in the US and UK.

Amidst President Trump's two failed travel bans, what is it like to be a Muslim in America right now and what effect has President Trump's political rhetoric had on the modest fashion industry? Especially when contrasted against the idea that modest fashion seeks to empower Muslim females who wish to dress modestly and fashionably.
