With populations now isolated and difficult to locate, the crew arranged to film a monitored group at the remote Zhouzhe Reserve. Getting there was itself a challenge. At the end of a narrow winding road up through the Qinling mountains, slippery and treacherous in winter, the crew had then to journey deeper into the forest to reach the study site where they could get close enough to film the monkeys.
