Catch-up: 01 December

Ian turns the tables on Phil, Whitney makes a desperate bid to contact Tony, Masood's kindness drives him almost into the ground, and Liz decides there's no place like home.

Phil is feeling confident about his financial situation, as he tells Ben to write up a Christmas list for him.

Max grows increasingly frustrated with Phil not answering his phone, as Tanya walks in with Masood, who has a package to deliver to them. Masood hints to Max that he is excited about their deal. Max makes excuses to Tanya to cover up Masood鈥檚 excitement, trying his best to keep their 鈥榩lan鈥 a secret.

Isaacs, the debt collector, is still hanging around, reminding Phil that his deadline is 5pm that day. Max feels guilty about involving Masood and tries to pull out of the deal, but Phil threatens to reveal everything to Tanya and the kids. Max has no way out.

Masood tells Amira he has sorted things with Ian and her rent, so she can live alone until moving in with them after the wedding. She drops a ripped up letter from her father in prison with a visiting order. Masood agrees not to tell Syed.

Ian sees Max talking to Archie and suspects him of cutting him out of the deal. Max says the house is up for auction that night and needs the cash. Max suggests cutting Masood out of the deal again, doubting he鈥檒l be able to get the money together that quickly. Max tells him he鈥檒l be round for the money at 4:30 pm.

Max meets Masood and tries to persuade him to abandon the deal but he insists he will get the cash. His brother wants a piece of the action and he wants to surprise Zainab. Tanya is suspicious of them. In order to divert her, Max pretends he has ordered her a gift, which has gotten lost and Masood is looking into it. He changes his tune and suggests they do go to Canada for Christmas after all, clearly wanting to escape the inevitable mess he鈥檚 creating.

Max has no choice but to go ahead as planned, so he draws up a fake contract and tells Phil that Ian and Masood are giving him the money at 4:30.

Masood is in a very good mood and tells Amira he can definitely pay her rent. He describes his turbulent history with Syed but concludes that no matter what you have to be loyal to your family, encouraging Amira to reconsider her relationship with her father.

As Phil鈥檚 deadline with the debt collectors approaches, Isaacs arrives at the Vic with more heavies. Time is running out for Phil.

Max tells Phil there is a change of plan and Ian and Masood turns up in the Vic with their cash. Phil has seconds left until the heavies come for him as Ian and Masood take their time signing the fake contract. However, at the last minute, Ian signs the contract 鈥楳ickey Mouse鈥 鈥 he and Masood are onto them. Masood calls Max and Phil 鈥渢he worst type of lowlife there is鈥 and walks out with Ian.

Enraged with Phil, Max orders Phil to tell Tanya that he forced him into the whole thing and then stay away from him. Phil is at a loss, and as the clock strikes five, Isaacs walks in followed by the other heavies.

Ian and Masood meet up in the caf茅 with Archie, who has tipped them off about Phil and Max鈥檚 secret plan. He tells them he could tell it was a scam, before sharing a knowing look with Ryan. They share a toast to Phil and Max.

Amira asks Masood if he can still afford to pay her rent and he assures her it鈥檚 all under control before making a call to Janine asking for more taxi shifts, any night, all night.

Ben walks in and finds Phil battered, bloody and unconscious on the floor.

Meanwhile, Whitney can鈥檛 keep her mind off of Tony. Bianca tries to reassure her that soon he will be put away and she won鈥檛 have to think about him ever again. Bianca tells Whitney that she is really going places saying 鈥渢here鈥檚 a world out there waiting for you out there鈥. Does she say 鈥渙ut there鈥 twice?

Bianca prints out an application for a fashion course for Whitney, encouraging her to fill it in. When Whitney is later seen writing intently, it looks like she is following Bianca鈥檚 advice. However, she is secretly writing a letter to Tony.

Earlier, Roxy presses Ronnie to reveal who the father of her baby is, as he could be a future brother-in-law. Ronnie says she doubts it as he has already scarpered. The penny drops that the father is Owen. Ronnie tells Roxy that he knows the baby is his but has done the typical man thing and legged it. Roxy is unimpressed given Owen鈥檚 background. But Ronnie says the father doesn鈥檛 matter, 鈥淚t鈥檚 about the baby, not him.鈥

Liz leaves her dog Sugar with Patrick as she announces she is leaving. She has nothing to stay for; Owen is gone, Libby is in Oxford and clearly, nothing will happen between her and Patrick. She then apologises to Ronnie and tells her she is leaving. They both agree that Owen has likely just gone to sort some things out and will be ok. Ronnie doesn鈥檛 tell her about the baby.

Later on Liz tells Patrick she is leaving in five minutes, hinting for him to give her a reason to stay. Despite this, and Pat鈥檚 encouragement, Patrick鈥檚 pride gets in the way.
